Angelina Jolie's breasts (and the rest of her for that matter) have been the topic of locker-room conversation but to the chagrin of men everywhere who considered her to be the epitome of the perfect woman, she recently decided to undergo a double mastectomy! 'Why in the world would she do THAT?!?' you must be thinking, right? Well, her reasons are humbling and definitely legit. Turns out she had an 87% risk of getting breast cancer due to the BRCA1 gene so she decided to beat the cancer before it started and get both of her breasts removed. But why go public about such a personal matter?

She had this to say:

"There are many women who do not know that they might be living under the shadow of cancer. It is my hope that they, too, will be able to get gene tested, and that if they have a high risk they, too, will know that they have strong options."

What about her hubby Brad's reaction??:

"I am fortunate to have a partner who is so loving and supportive.  Brad was [with me] for every minute of the surgeries.  We managed to find moments to laugh together.  We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and that it would bring us closer.  And it has."

But for those who are not in relationship with Angelina and were rather attached to her natural lady lumps, fear not. She can still reprise her Tomb Raider role if she wants because she has had lengthy reconstructive surgery over the past couple of months and feels just fine about it:

"On a personal note, I do not feel any less of a woman.  I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity."

That same gene also gives her a 57% risk of ovarian cancer too, but there's no word what she's going to do about that as of yet. She's intensely private but way to go to both her and Brad for being such amazing role models for us all. Brangelina lives and we could all take lessons from the both of them. No, the couple! Get your mind out of the gutter!
