While many are stocking up for “The End Of The World In 2012” they are stocking up on water, perishable goods, and many types of clothing. The One thing your’s truly is stocking up on is bacon. The National Pig Association isn’t predicting the end of the world, but they are predicting that we’re headed for a worldwide shortage of  bacon.

Bacon lovers are going to start seeing problems next year and industry insiders say the problems are unavoidable.

The trade group reported Thursday that annual pig production for Europe's main pig producers fell across the board between 2011 and 2012, a trend that "is being mirrored around the world." The group tied the decline to increased feed costs, an effect of poor harvests for corn and soybeans.”

Farmers are having a tough time raising pigs because of the drought conditions. The conditions are affecting this year’s corn and soybean crop. These conditions are making it more expensive to feed the animals.

Considering those factors, the USDA forecasted next year's pork production at 23 billion pounds, a decrease of about 1.3 percent from this year's estimated total. That breaks down to Americans consuming slightly more than 45 pounds of pork per capita in 2013, a reduction of more than 1 percent from this year's estimates.”

BLT’s, Bacon Cheeseburgers, Bacon Hotdogs, anything with bacon may be on the outs next year. It truly is the end of the world.
