Most of us couldn't live without everything in our bathroom, but is that just because we've been 'conditioned' to feel that way? You'd be surprised to find that many of the hygiene products that you depend on daily are completely unnecessary. Here's our Top 5 list highlighting a couple (but not all) products that are designed to make their makers money more than solving your hygiene issues.

Acne Cleansers

Every kid has suffered from this but don't tell them or the companies that produce their acne creams and pads that they just plain don't WORK. Well they work, but way too good. They're way too aggressive and severely dry out your skin. When the skin is as irritated as it already is with foreign pus-filled pockets all over it, the last thing you need is to aggravate it further. Believe it or not, just a little soap and water a few times a day can go a long way! Of course if you're suffering from pizza-face, antibiotics may be required, but your insurance should cover that.

Mouthwash

The alcohol in mouthwash isn't for killing bacteria.  It's for keeping the menthol and eucalyptus oils mixed and last I checked neither of those actually kill bacteria either. Alcohol once again dries you out and your saliva has bacteria-fighting properties, so mouthwash actually gets rid of the very thing you need (and already had) to keep your mouth in tip-top shape. So although it may legit freshen your breath, it definitely doesn't kill anything like it says it does, cept your body's natural ability to fight bacteria in your mouth already... Brushing regularly is still the best way to keep your breath all kissable.

Exfoliating Creams

As with any product on this list you always FEEL better after using it and do notice an immediate change, and this one is no different. These creams don't just get rid of dead skin cells, they peel off the top layer of skin as well. Of course you feel great and your skin looks great because it's a brand new baby layer but just like real babies, your new skin you birthed is also just as vulnerable. Hello sun damage and more wrinkles... They should call this product 'Age Your Ass Quicker Than Grammas' cream... It'd fly off the shelves wicked fast then right?

Cuticle Trimmers

Our cuticles protect your fingernail beds from infection.  So if you cut them regularly to make your fingers look better, they might end up looking worse in the long run.  As in, nail fungus or other nasty conditions. No, biting them off isn't gonna help either, although who can stop that?

Shampoo / Conditioner

I love this one. It's so funny to watch commercials that claim their product revitalizes your hair. Why? Because you can't revitalize' something that's already DEAD in the first place. Hair is made up of dead cells and putting shampoo on it won't revitalize it anymore than if you were to slather it all over the roadkill you just passed. When you get your hair 'squeaky clean' it's really clean, but so clean that it strips away your hair's natural protection making it dry and brittle afterwards.

Enter the next genius product to fix the damage that shampooing does. Conditioner. Now this one actually works, but why buy either product really? I gotta call B/S to some degree here though, I like the way my hair looks after a day without washing but hate the way it FEELS. I can't imagine going a few days much less a few weeks or months without washing it. It just doesn't lay right and looks scummy... Agree? If this was a marketing conspiracy ploy by the shampoo companies, then they landed millions of captives for life.
