Matchmaking in the new Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been a serious problem for a while now as reported by a support thread on Halo's website. The only resolution 343 Industries has come up with is to remove some playlists from its roster.

Only a couple days ago, did Dan Ayoub, The Executive Producer of Halo: The Master Chief Collection address the problems with matchmaking and explain that his team was working hard to find a solution. He acknowledged the detriments to the players' online experience and set forth with some fixes he believed would make a difference.

Except now, two days later, none of those fixes seem to be working.

Their official fix for matchmaking, for now, is to take out four of the ten playlists.  While players will no longer be able to use the Team Hardcore, Rumble Pit, Halo 4 and SWAT (rotational), playlists, they will still be able to use the Team Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo Championship Series, Team Slayer, Big Team Battle, Halo 2 Classic and Halo 3 playlists. 343 is hoping that "This concentrated playlist layout will allow players to get into matches faster, and improve overall match times." Although they admit that this will help some people, it is not a direct fix and the matchmaking queues will continue to have some hiccups.

However, there were a few tips put out by 343 to attempt to cut down on the amount of failed matchmaking queues players were experiencing, but no real solution yet. The two seemingly most helpful tips to a successful matchmaking queue that 343 has come up with are to make sure you don't stay in a queue for longer than 5 minutes and to make sure that your queue says that you are "In Lobby." The reasoning behind these is pretty standard -- most successful matches are found within 2-4 minutes and if you don't have the "In Lobby" proclamation over the player names, you simply won't ever find a match.

If you're discouraged by the matchmaking queue status, 343 does have some good news in that it will put out an update that will "address fixes for scoring and stats."
